Prologue: Before the End From the Start

In the continuing story of our lifetime, it’s important that we go back to where we all started. I believe that this exhibit, Prologue, have somehow managed to achieve that when they had their opening night last Monday December 2.

"Difference"

“Difference”

Prologue featured the works of 19 graduating students of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s Multimedia Arts degree program, all sharing the theme of introducing themselves to the world with their promising skills and talent as artists and designers. The exhibit was held at Black Market Manila along Don Chino Roces Avenue in Makati City.

Welcome strangers!

Welcome strangers!

I’m quite impressed with several installments found in the venue, especially the glow-in-the-dark bedroom, the life-sized hand clay models, and one artist’s interpretation of The Vitruvian Man. The latter, I couldn’t quite figure out how he/she managed to make an optical illusion using different colored lights to highlight several human body illustrations found behind base illustration that looks like the Vitruvian Man. I know it can be done but, for the average Joe, it looks like a task too overwhelming so we gotta give props to that.

I didn’t stay long however although I knew it’s gonna be one whole party happening throughout the night with entertainment provided by the venue’s roster of performers.

Day 2 (which I wasn’t able to go to) have a different line-up to mark Prologue‘s second and last outing. Seminars provided by guest speakers were held, led by the likes of Onat Diaz and Soleil Ignacio. I’m pretty certain these are MMA-accredited talks so surely that kinda helped draw students in.

Theme-wise, I think the very essence of “Prologue” can only be felt if you attend all two days of the exhibition as each day offers something different, unlike in most exhibits where a lot of the she-bangs happen on the first night and all momentum is lost on the second and third night. Unfortunately, I really didn’t have the luxury to do such but I’m pretty sure that was the direction it was going for.
