Cocoon: At the Crossroads of Change

Change is gradual as change is inevitable. Such a concept is interwoven to create a story of growing up and chasing life. That may have been what Cocoon turned itself into.

Unfortunately for me, I never had the privilege of checking out this exhibit’s opening night because of some uncontrollable circumstances that weekend so I decided to come by on its second and final day where it didn’t really fall short of what making every day of an MMA exhibit count.

A Life's Story

A Life’s Story

Featuring the works of 15 graduating students of the College of Saint Benilde’s AB-Multimedia Arts program, Cocoon is located at Art Galileia in Bonifacio Global City, the same site where Vernamics had theirs held a couple of weeks earlier, for a period of two days (December 7 and 8, 2013).

Cocoon

I was told by one of the exhibitors of how the concept came to be. He explained that Cocoon was more or less a narrative, of growing up and making life-altering choices and decisions. Much of the primary works clearly shows the theme that the exhibit team were trying to capture. Most likely, had I been at the first day, I might have a better understanding and hold of the whole theme itself.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed a lot of the works, including a mini-narrative composed of artworks shown in a TV screen which featured a man with alzheimer’s and how he sees the world in his own eyes.

The first time I heard of Cocoon, I thought they were going for a more literal attack with their execution but I like how they made it more metaphorical in the sense that change is constant in one’s life, experiencing its highs and lows yet we continue on living. Gotta give big props to that.
