When She Left Me Part 6

The play became a success and many of the student participants knew that they did a good job. No parent is as happy as Larry who is all the more jubilant to see how great his children are on stage. Together with Finz and his kid, they all head out to the school’s parking lot where their car is parked.

As they’re about to leave the premises, Larry came across a familiar face.

“Marla?”

Marla was watching them from afar but she doesn’t want her husband nor even her kids to see her. She ran but Larry followed her, trying to know what’s going on. He had Finz look after the twins in the meantime.

He looked everywhere inside the school. Feeling hopeless, he texted Finz and told him to let the twins stay at his house for the night. Just as he was about to search elsewhere, he heard sound as if someone’s coughing really hard.

The sound is comin from the girl’s restroom. Thinking that no other person is there except who he thought is in it, he went inside. He caught Marla at the most unfortunate time:

She was throwing up blood.

“MARLA?!”

“Larry? What are you doing here?”

“I was looking for you but I saw you….here and…”

“Yes honey…I know what you’re thinking. I have cancer?”

“SINCE WHEN?!!”

“I had this since I was a little girl…”

“But…I don’t understand. I mean–“

“My family has a long history of having cancer…but it’s a long story, Larry. I just don’t want you to bear the fact that i’m dying!”

“No, I want to know! Never once have you told me anything that makes you feel any comfortable! You never uttered a single word of what you wanna have instead. I just don’t get why AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, you just—let it happen. I don’t get you Marla, even after all the years we’ve been together, I thought everything between us is okay…”

“IT’S BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID, LARRY! I’m afraid of what you’d think of me once you found out I have cancer in all the years we’ve been together…”

“If you told me sooner, I would have helped you!”

“There’s nothing that you can do Larry! I found a lump on my breast seven months ago. I made a visit to the doctor and received the WORST PIECE NEWS I HAD IN MY WHOLE LIFE…that I have Stage 3 breast cancer.”

Marla broke into tears…

“I thought I was recessive because both of my parents didn’t have cancer. But I knew that sooner or later I’ll be the one with a genetic disease!  But early on, I already planned out my life but everything was out of control!”

“You shouldn’t blame yourself for something none of us has any control with it…You just have t be strong…”, Larry tried to comfort her.

“Strong?! Is THIS what you called “strong”?”, Marla points to herself as she continues.  “The reason I filed the damn annulment is because I don’t want to live with some guy who always think that everything’s going to be okay. Guess what? I’m NOT OKAY?! The moment I learned that I was pregnant, I thought the world is going to end.”

Larry tries to reason with her but she’s blinded by her anger towards the poor guy.

“Because of those kids, I never had the chance to live a life free of worries and responsibilities. At least I only have me and my family to worry about. And I have my own dreams that I want to fulfill. But because of you, none of what I want to achieve in my is ever going to happen.”

“Yes I know but we can’t changed what happened. Even if we didn’t married, you know you’re still going to have OUR kids whether you like it or not!”, said Larry.

“But that’s just IT! Aughh, Larry! Don’t you get it?! I never wanted to have kids to begin with? I don’t want them to inherit the kind of disease that I have…Hell, I don’t even want them to suffer the same fate as I am having now!”

After hearing all of these things, Larry collected his thought for a minute before he could say anything else.

“And that’s the reason you want to annul our marriage? To get away from me and from our own children, not knowing that you are dying from something we can’t cure?”

“Honey, you know how much I love you. You mean so much to me. The moment I laid my eyes on you I know from that point on that you’re going to be the one I want to be with for the rest of my life. Life as we know is never what we intent to be but we have to embrace life as it is. We made a mistake but this mistake became our pride and joy, and they’re two of them. It’s impossible that after all these years you didn’t learn to love your own children? You gave brith to them for God’s sake. And you showing up for our kids’ play tonight meant something for sure…”

And from that point on, Marla made a life-changing realization. She cannot turn her back as a mother for her own two children. She knew that she cannot avoid the problem she made years ago. Marla did love Larry for the right reasons, it’s just that her ambition to live her life in full had her blinded from the very things she want to achieve in life.

All of these she said to Larry just before…

“Marla…Marla? MARLA?”

When She Left Me Part 5

Karla kept asking her dad if their mom is coming to the play. But for every question she throws to her dad, he only gives her one answer: “I’m not sure”. Yuichi, who’s already in his pirate costume, is already about to cry when he asked Larry this heartbreaking question: “Doesn’t Mommy love us anymore?”.

Larry assures his kids that their mom loves them so much. He also told them that they are not to blame for whatever it is is happening between their parents. But heaven knows he’s lying.

The dad is worried if the mom is ever going to attend. He already sent a barrage of text messages to her phone but still no reply. Finz suddenly came into the picture, asking if how thing’s are doing about the annulment thing. (FYI, Finz got kid of his own who goes to the same school as the twins. Who knew?)

“I’m not sure. I really haven’t heard from Marla since God-knows-when. Hell, it must have been seven or eight months since she left me and our kids on our own.”

“But you still love her right?”, out pops Finz’ forbidden question.

“I still love her. I love her for right reasons. I know she loves me too. I would have understand if she hates me for what happened in the past but marrying me means something right?”

“It may have meant something…But it is possible that it may have meant something else?”

“Finz, I don’t know what to do. I’m so confused. I…just can’t believe that Marla is actually leaving me…for good!”

“Hold on to your tears dude. You don’t want your kids to see you like that, you know.”

“You’re right. I should be strong for my kids. I know we could get through this somehow.”

It’s past 4:30pm and the play is about to start. Many from the audience are in their seats, awaiting for their little ones’ spot in the limelight. The same goes to Larry who continue to try and keep things together with his kids.

As he sees Yuichi and Karla singing and dancing, he couldn’t stop himself smiling in tears. He’s so proud as a dad to witness what could be his kids’ best moments in their lives, yet he knows it won;t be complete without their mom.

Speaking of “mom”. Amidst the crowd of parents inside the school theater, one familiar rose is found there among the thorns, standing at the very back.

It’s Marla and it turns out she got Larry’s messages after all. She sees Larry but the guy didn’t notice.

In silence, she uttered a few words:

“I’M SORRY…”

Jeco’s Neighbourly Place Ten O Seven

A really late post…

I never been invited for an overnight stay with a friend’s house for quite sometime now. My first occurred way back early Spring 2002 when I was invited to come overnight with a newly-befriended classmate who was new at the time. I remembered watching baseball, Spongebob Squarepants, and realizations that Milo in Japan is pronounced as “mee-ro” or “mee-lo”.

Fast forward to seven years, I felt like history was repeating itself when me and some old high school friends were invited by Jeco to his newly-built house in Paco, Manila 1007.

New place, new neighbours, new zip code.

I. Compass

Lucky for me, the day of his house blessing coincided with the last day of my NSTPCWS immersion in Baseco Compound. After the immersion, I went straight there. It didn’t take me long to find the place because he already gave me the address of the house, I just had to know where to find it.

And find it I did. I just relied on my good senses, I was able to locate the place.

Too bad, there was one missed detail…I was supposed to be there around 5pm, I got there as early as 2 in the afternoon. Hehehe!

II. N2N

I was given a tour of Jerico’s new hang out, in addition to meeting his numerous guests. His room is spacious with its own bathroom, balcony, and lighting system (Yabang!). Not much furniture around but a PC was already installed in a new computer table/tocador.

Interesting part of the tour are the “tourists”…The many nieces and nephews, etc of my good friend. Comes to show that we’re not getting any younger, even if we’re only 18/19.

III. Tour de Manila Redux

Another bout of “tour de Manila” fever got me sightseeing with previously unexplored areas of Manila. I finally saw Paco Park, those 50’s-60’s style houses, art deco architecture, dilapidated old grandeurs, and colleges and universities like Colegio de Sta. Isabel, Adamson, TUP, and PNU.

After been a constant reader of Paolo Alcazaren’s column in the Philippine Star for quite sometime now, I grew to love and pity the city that we call as Manila.

IV. D’ Pick-Up Na U. Sakay N Me

Jeco and I went to Malabon to pick up what’s left in the guestlist. Let’s say there was some minor communication problems that had us guessing in our toes, and there’s no more a need to have it elaborated hehehehe (as requested).

We got Mark, Chamy, Yoko, and MR. Raymond couldn’t come but says he’ll make up by going to “my” sleepover party. I wonder…(I’m all alone in the house next week while the family’s away for vacation up north. Would that be a possibility?)

Janelle, Ria, and Dianne went to the prime destination earlier than the host and his band of pick-up boys and girls.

V. Videoke Night

Here come’s the fun part…

The guest were served with JaPinoy cuisine, Redhorse Beer (one cup for me!), and plain water. Jeco seemed by that time already tense though. Plus, we got the home entertainment system to us HS buds.

We sang as many songs as we could, to emotionally-charged songs to songs with always-mentioned terms. One had a drink too many, and many opted to go home instead of staying here for the night. One already was given the greenlight while another seems forced to make a fateful decisions.

VI. The Edge of Night

Me, Yoko and and Janelle stayed at jeco’s house for the night. What’s left in the nighttime hours, we spend it on pure chatter, rumors, confessions, and deep dark secrets. I forgot who made the first say but I was forced to watch a movie called “Twilight”. But after 20 minutes, we called it quits.

Around 2 am, we finally got ourselves to sleep.

VII. The Guiding Light

I felt a little unwell sometime after the party. At the glimpse of sunset, I was already awake but still a bit sleepy. No thanks to someone who’s getting the bigger share of the blanket hehehe. I finally got the sleep I needed when I made myself company to a lofty sofa…at 7 in the morning.

VIII. As the World Turns

A Sunday, Jeco and his guests were treated with some breakfast. The guest were pretty much thankful for his parents for being very accomadating. We friends went to Mass at the Stella Maris Center in Paco and, brought by my mom’s request, we went to MOA for some grub.

By the time, I got to where my family is having lunch, me and my friends finally parted ways.

I must say, this is one of the most memorable moments I’ll always going to cherish. Sorry for being a wee bit self-centered, but I realized that I’m not always alone by myself when I have friends around to help me stand up :D.

After Two Years Time (The J-Blog Files 2nd Anniversary Special)

Happy Anniversary to the J-Blog Files for reaching its second year!

I would like to thank first and foremost the Lord Almighty for giving me an avenue to finally express my deepest desires through writing journals online. TJBF gave me a sense of achievement and help me go through a lot of challenges that may come along the way.

The site had come a long way since the time I began the website. At first it was all for the reason of replying about Dianne Naval’s early entry with regards to the then-upcoming Chimes 2007 yearbook. After that, the rest as they say was history.

Ironically, today is exactly 2 years since I’ve made my first blog: “Just Before Graduation” dated March 23, 2007. Only three people had viewed the entry (Clues: 2C, There, Mister)

Afterwards, I chronicled a lot of events, including the happiest as well as the controversial entries made. Then later ventured to the other functions of Multiply. I got to try out other literary forms such as poetry and prose. Someday, I will get the time to finish the “Paglisan” and “When She Left Me” blog serials.

Today, I continue to learn more about life as well as jolt down the best and worst that life could offer.

—–

I wanna share this as well:

1. Since my youngest sibling will finally get to graduate from high school this coming March 28, I just realize by now that 3-28 is exactly the day I was finally done with high school, 2 years before.

2. March 29 was the Honor’s Convocation I never bothered to come the next day. Only to realize that I was given a conduct award for perfect attendance! WAGHH! (Same day as the pool party I never knew had happened on the same day after the convocation)

3. Never got to read my final report, I immediately had it submitted to the CSB Admissions Office on the 30th when I finally decided on going to that school.

Twist of events? 😀

Happy 2nd Anniversary!

Just to add something up though kinda OT, I failed to secure an application for the FOP this summer. Grrr…why can’t SAO place their ads as early as January! I only got to know about this a couple of weeks ago when they started putting ads on SDA.

By next summer, I may no have the chance to do FOP’ing if I am to have my OJT as stated in my flowchart!

Marapat lang na iyong ibigay sa’kin ang inyong mga suhestiyon, tanong at kritisismo ukol sa mga litratong kinuha. 😀

This is so far the only set among the 5 wherein I made an extensive use of bracketing the pictures.

Pasada Bigla Bagal; Manong Laging Higpit Nagbagong Gupit

My last class in school ends in 5:45pm and I usually am in Monumento en route to home around 6:30pm. One of the things I do when I’m in the area is to put on a serious face if I see law-breakers trying to cross the street (Samson Road) if the traffic enforcer have not yet given the commuters the greenlight to walk across. This Monday was no different.

However, may dagdag eksena…

While sporting a very serious face, I didn’t notice that a vehicle was slowing down in front of me, and I mean slowing down FOR ME!

A window at the front seat opens and an awfully familiar face came sprouting out from that very window.

“JAIME!”

I heard someone screaming my name out loud kaya hinanap ko kung saan iyon nanggaling. Turns out, it was in fact Jeco who seemed to have finaly got himself a badly-needed haircut and now sports shorter hair. Afterwards, the vehicle quickly left towards the rotunda and drove into the limelight and beyond.

J Pics D40 Pics: Malikot na Daliri

All taken last Sunday.

Went to Philamlife Auditorium to watch Albert’s and, surprisinglly, Fred’s piano recital. Many are surprisingly good, even the younger ones. Kulang na lang, mawasak na nila iyung piano, hahaha!

Didn’t get to watch Fred’s performance though since it was getting late.

Mostly point and shoot (auto). Majority has ISO 200, some has ISO 800. A few are set in Manual Mode. Aperture is fluctuating so it’s hard to get the best light.
