Sitti in the Mix: The Dense Modesto Remixes is the first remix album of Philippine bossa nova singer Sitti. Instead of a bossa nova sound, Sitti collaborated with Myx Philippines DJ Dense Modesto to make her songs into dance tracks.

From me:

I like the way the songs were remixed. The beat is very catchy and danceable. Most of the songs are upbeat and exciting while others are mellow yet the beat’s still there. There are also interludes in between some songs. It amkes a good transition from one song to another.

Have I mentioned that the tracks play nonstop without the listener knowing it? Just like in track 1-Ipanema Drums, the drums played as if there are actually drums, by the time it gets to Track 2, the drumbeat changes into techy-beats.

It continues to do so until the end. The Cd’s run ends with an outro of a guiatr playing continously until it finally ends.

Here are the tracks of the CD:
1. “Ipanema Drums” [Intro] (Moraes, Gimbel, Jobim – 0:28
2. “Mas Que Nada” [Baile Del Sol Remix] (Jorge Ben) – 5:37
3. “I Didn’t Know I Was Looking For Love” [Morning After Remix] (Tracey Thorn, Ben Watt) – 3:41
4. “Wave” [Blue Coast Remix] (Jobim) – 4:06
5. “Tattooed On My Mind” [Beach Avenue Remix] (D’Sound) – 7:13
6. “You On My Mind” [Modesto Beep Remix] (Connell, Drewery, O’Duffy) – 4:05
7. “The Girl From Ipanema” [Fastrack 2030 Remix] [Interlude] – 1:33
8. “At 17” [Prom Night Remix] (Janis Ian) – 4:34
9. “Lady Wants To Know” [Trip Lounge Remix] (Franks) – 3:18
10. “One Note Samba” [Outtake Remix] [Interlude] (Hendricks, Jobim, Mendonca) – 1:15
11. “Para Sa Akin” [Paso Dulce Remix] (Emil Pama) – 3:18
12. “Para Sa Akin” [Reprise] [Interlude] – 0:19
13. “Hey Look At The Sun” [Fieldday Remix] (Nelson Angelo) – 5:25
14. “Invisible War” [Empty Hallway Remix] (Julia Fordham) – 4:54
15. “Perfume Guitarra” [Outro] – 0:30

Last Sunday, I bought myself a copy of Sitti In The Mix: The Dense Modesto Remixes. It’s a compilation album of selected remixed songs from Sitti’s previous albums prior to 2007. The remixing is done by DJ Dense Modesto.

I thought the CD was expensive so I told a saleslady how much does it cost (I was at Astroplus, The Block). She said it costs around Php 250. Too bad since it doesn;t bear a price tag so I can’t be sure of what she siad. I went to the cashier to buy the CD, and much to my relief, it is 100 pesos cheaper, Php150.00!

Well anyway, I had the songs from the CD ripped to I-tunes a couple of days later and had it placed inside my iPod. Next thying I knew, I was no longer shffling my 147 songs but dancing to the beat of 15 danceable songs sang by Sitti. I just couldn’t help myself but dance as I go (siyempre, hindi obvious).

The CSB Experience: Paano ba ang Magreklamo? Hmm…

Should I make this limited, I think this is for the better

from DLS-CSB_SDA-MMA Y! Grps:

Di kami kailanman informed about these policies whatsoever. Kung sana lang we knew this if every one of us ay me kopya ng student handbook ng CSB.

Never man kami ng block namin nakatanggap ng kopya ng student handbook na yan. Palagi daw ubos. Eh di ba dapat automatic may kopya kami kasi bayd na siya dahil sa tuition fee namin. Nagmumukha kaming tanga kung magpapatuloy pa ito. We don’t know these kind of procedures kaya we get to experience embarassment from all of this.

Please lang po, by next year, all should have their own copy, including the next batch. It’s one way that students don’t have to complain about.

PEACE! :):):)

Hoogie Was Right, There Were Flashbacks (The Soap Opera Addict in Me)

Hoogie was right, there were flashbacks. I meant to say that my mom’s favorite tearjerker is “Maging Sino Ka Man” whose Friday episode last Feb. 29 ended with a bang, literally. Bing Pimentel’s character, Monique Madrigal, was gunned to death, sacrificing her life to Fidel (played by Christopher de Leon), who was in a shooting duel with Mateo/Samuel (played by Philip Salvador).

The succeeding episode shows Mateo, unconscious after a bullet slightly wounded his head, was awaken by flashbacks of what really happened” Monique was there to convince the two big fat angry men to stop from what the’re doing but things got out of control. Each guy both fired a shot, one of them fatally falling her. Unsure of who did it, our main heroes don’t know what they can do to comfort a grieving Jackie.
—

Grabeh, the whole episode really had me in tears. It is but rare for me to shed tears because of a show I’m religiously following. The other times I cried for a soap was when I watched Sana Maulit Muli, Natutulog Ba ANg Diyos, and Mga Anghel na Walang Langit. Boy, that was fun!
—

The first time I watched a soap, I was 4 years old. I could remember my nannies watching an epsiode of Mara Clara, with Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes. Soon after, I got hooked from my nannies obsessions and began to follow these shows as well. Among them are: Esperanza, Sa Dulo ng walang Hanggan, Te Amo, Saan ka Man Naroroon, Sa Piling Mo, Ikaw ang Lahat Sa Akin, etc.
—-

I don’t know why but I think, I’m an addict. I closely follow soaps as if I’d die if I don’t. Notice that the soaps I’ve mentioned are mostly from ABS-CBN. It’s because Ch. 2 is still the best when it comes to good drama sproductions. I guess, their main weakness are fantasy series, unnecessary extensions, and loopholes along the way (does untalented leads count?).

I guess I need to end this now. Palos is half-over and Maging will be on very soon. Got to go…!

The CSB Experience: 90% Complete

How time flies…Minsan, namamamasyal ako sa PEx nang may nabangga akong thread sa ilalim ng CSB Subforum. Nakasulat “CSB Entrance exam result”.

J.I.A.: No Other Indian restaurant like HAANDI

It’s been awhile since I made my last post under JIA. Well anyway, it came across my mind about this great restaurant which really made a mark on me and my family when we were in Falls Church. It’s an Indian restaurant, yes, but it is more than that. It is Haandi.

Haandi is located between he GNC drug store and (If I could recall it right) is the Vietnamese-oowned barber shop, a walking distance away from the main entrance of Giant supermarket, just before you cross over to Staples (a National Bookstore of sorts).

When I first came here in one Sunday noon (of 2001), the first thing I notice was the beautiful smell spread across the restaurant, with walls painted with beautiful Indian artwork. Turn-off I guess was the songs they’re playing.

It’s not the Bollywood music kind that they’re playing across the place but the more traditional one. It made me remember of one of my childhood nightmares whenever I hear traditional Indian music. It started when I was 9, I used to watch an Indian show that airing on an Indian channel on cable TV. The show is called Sri Ganesh, which is about Indian gods and goddesses (parang Greek mythology). At first, it kind of amuse me because of the actors wearing funny costumes but as overtime, it started to scare me, seeing Vishnu having an elephant nose, Shiva with many arms and hands, and a child being buried alive (I was 9, I never understod things then).

Back to the Haandi thing, the first meal that I ate there, I can still recall, is the Murg Masala. It’s like a chicken curry added with Indian spices and everything. I immediately got hooked on this particular type of meal and so does my little brother. Kuya liked the Tandoori, or was it Ate. And since we’re in the States, we had free refills on sodas at no extra cost (although, after 9/11, a lot of fancy restos were cutting back in expenses so the free refill was no longer continued in most of the places we’ve visited including Haandi).

Having lunch in Haandi after Mass became an almost fixture for all of us. After hearing Mass at St. James Catholic Church, we would walk along West Broad Street all the way across the several streets including Park Avenue, the Asian grocery store, Applebees, and the Taekwondo club there, just so we could eat at that particular restaurant. The waiters there have also gotten used to our presence up to the point that they could almost remember what we are about to order. Guess what, in most Sundays, we’re usually the first customers of the day (I’m so happy!).

Other than eating my plate of Murg, I also enjoyed eating their traditional Indian bread, whcih as I write, forgot its name. Before leaving the place, I had this need to eat their signature pistachio ice cream for dessert. Theirs is one of the best there is!

It’s kinda sad that we never actually stayed in Falls Church permanently, but it’s happy to hear that the people there really misses us,a s what was told to us by my mom who stayed in the US longer until 2004.

So if ever there would come a chance for me to go back tp the US, the first place hat I would visit would be none other than the best Indian restaurant there is in Falls Church, HAANDI.

Murg Masala, anyone?
