The CSB Experience: Sama-Summer Na (The road to Summer classes)

Following that very heartbreaking news of me not passing Algeb last term, I had no choice but to drop my enlisted Bmat2-x from my 3rd term sched since I really have to pass this prerequisite. So far so good, I’m okay now with ALgeb since my professor there is the same one from last term’s Algeb except it’s at the AKIC and all are quite.

Just last week I found out that the enlistment for summer will be held this week so I took no time to spare and had myself enrolled in it. But that was before I knew that something horribly wrong will took place.

First, I can’t seem to access my CSBInfo account as I can’t log in to CSB’s intranet nor the CSB SIS (Student Information System) so for a whole month, I’ve been coordinating with the guys of the ACTC to find out what wrong with the problem. So far, I’m not the only one with this problem. All I get from accessing are the messages “you account has expired” and “…can not log you in…”. Oh darn! By the time of the pre-enrollment for summer, I have to do something for me to get access to my SIS account so as a last minute measure the ACTC guys had my existing password replaced with anew one I made. That surely did the trick but I sure wished that they would ahve done this a lot sooner.

And when I thought everything was all okay and on going, I found out that the subject which I want to enlist which is BMAT2-x (Business Mathematics 2) is nowhere to be found on the enlistable subjects in my SIS account. I asked the Office of the Registrar for help and they couldn’t give me a reason why such a thing happened. I explained that I was supposed to have Bmat for this term but I have to drop it to retake my Algeb since it is a prerequisite for Bmat. My Bmat on the other hand is qualified to be my back subject since I didn’t took it for this term as it was wreitten in my course flowchart.

To make the long story short, the Registrar said that they’d enlist my subject for me. Oohh, talk about special case! :):):)

So I guess all’s well that ends well……………………….or is it?!

The CSB Experience: Uniformity

What do I wear on a typical school day? A plain t-shirt, a pair of jeans or long shorts, a pair of sneakers and that’s all to it. What does some schoolmate wear in a typical school day? A long pair of black pants, a pair of clean “croc” shoes, a white “polo” shirt with a CSB logo on the left upper pocket of he shirt. What does another schoolmate wear in a typical school day? A polo shirt beneath a dark-coated blazer with a fairly acceptable skirt with leg-wearing stockings and high heel shoes that are perfectly polished.

It’s a surprise that CSB is not what you expect from a Catholic institution with a liberal-minded student body. Some wearing uniforms, others wearing formal attire, and others wearing “normal clothing”. It turns out, the school, for which many have thought has no existing uniform dress code, does have such.

Later did I figured out that most of the schools of CSB have their own set of dress code (By the way, CSB have a dress code policy on what not to wear applicable to all students just so you know). If what I heard is correct, SMIT and SMS (School of Management and Information Technology and School of Multidisciplinary Studies respectively) students are required to wear formal attire although there are days were they can wear semi-formal to civilian attire (smart casual to casual). SHRIM (School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management) students have required to wear formal on certain days of the week as well as uniform attire (uniforms varies by year and major track). On the matter of CSB’s SPaCE (School of Professional and Continuing Education) I have no idea as well as SDEAS (School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies). Good thing is that we from SDA (School of Design and Arts) doesn’t have such a code.

One reason probably is to instill the students from these certain schools a sense of professionalism in preparation of whatever career they may take in the future. That may be the reason why as early as their freshman year, students are required to obey their respective dress code. Too bad on the part of my fellow SHRIM friends, they told me that they weren’t told by their seniors of this dress code being implemented and many had a hard time adjusting since they expect that they get to experience life without wearing school uniforms, or so they thought.

From a non-uniform wearing student’s view point, I feel kind of alienated whenever I’m around with uniform and formal-clad students, especially in classes where many of my classmates are from SHRIM and SMIT. I always think that these students are more proper, more organized and a lot primmer than us from SDA (Or so I thought) as well as a whole lot smarter.

I contrast, those from SDA are somehow encouraged to be liberal-minded, wear anything they want to wear, reshape their hair whenever and be themselves. That’s why I see many who wear: emo, goth, rock chic, rocker, urban, sport-themed, plain, outrageous, etc. from head to toe. On my part, I tend to wear green-colored shirts but now that I think about it, its getting kind of creepy for me to wear green all the time. As I write this, I’m wearing white for a change.

Although I’m speaking nonsense here and feel kind of bias, I can’t blame myself since that’s how I think. Hopefully, time will pass and I would have a different point of view towards people wearing dress code-enforced attire. Especially now that I’m getting to know some of them in my classes, hopefully I’d be able to overcome it.

THe CSB Experience: Taglines I Came Up With for my 7 Sections

Before anything else: 1)Sayang uli, di tayo umabanse at natalo tayo ng isang matinding kupunan mula dun, 2)Ang saya-saya ng Mini-Fair sa SJA sayang nga lang at sandali lang ang ikinataako don, 3) Masaya ang magkaroon ng klase sa tatlong building ng CSB!, 4)Nakakatawa naman ng ad ng mga taga-Solomon Guest House, mapuntahan kaya iyan one of these days, 5)One is still authoritative with a knack for puffing, another looks like a damsel but cant live without making a ????? a day, while one is the silent killer with a new dough for making odd things out.

This term, I go to classes with diefferent sections with all too different section names. I have DV9 for Philoma and Comsk2, DFS1 for PEtriid, DV1 for Worlite, H16 for Filip13 and HH2 for ALgeb-x (rewind). So I came up with the idea of making catchphrases that rhymes with the names of my sections so heto pa lang ang naiisip ko, Enjoy!:

AYOKO ‘YAN, DFS1!

U R MINE, DV9!

WE ARE ONE, DV1!

WALANG BITIN SA H16!

R U 1? DR1

R U, HH2?

HEHEHEHE! wala nang magawa!

The CSB Experience: The First Day the Third Time around

This is a very delayed post since our PC didn’t have a DSL connection for a week. That’s why I’m writing this piece just now.

Okay, somehow I’m able to get used to the fact that DV1 is long gone although, bits of us would found to be in the same class. Don’t get me wrong, I do miss my old block section but I guess I need to mingle to other people I haven’t met as well, just for a change of environment.

    1. MONDAY-W-F

My first day had me go to school earlier since my my first class (which is PETRIID) is at 9 in tye morning. My DV1 classmate there is Hoogie, Geric, Dino and Ferdie. Hoogie and I had the wrong understanding with regards to the location of our class. For one, we thought BC means “basketball court” whcih refers to the court lying just next to Plaza Villarosa. Second, we waited for nothing. Third, we learned to the bitter truth that BC actually stands for “badminton court”.

C-break is from 12:40 am-2:30 since I’m already used to this sched since the second trimester.  11:40 is Philoma for which I have Issi and Marlon as classmates and a former seminarian as a professor. 2:30 is Comsk2-x with Issi-Marlon plus Camae and friends.

My Filip13 class was a last-minute change since I have to replace my emptied Bmat slot with another subject. I have a professor with a personality that is so familiar,. somewhat like that of Sir Raffy of Filip11. For the first time, majority of my classmates are SHRIM students (some days, they wear formal, and in others, they wear uniforms) that’s why I feel a bit left out although there are a handful of us from MMA.

Last but not least is my Algeb-x class at the AKIC (yeah, AKIC LOLz). this class is also a mixture of majority SHRIM students plus non-shrims (like EMs, CAs, and MMAs). Good thing is that Ms Melody aka Ms Algeb is my lec prof once again and I have good ol Joseph Alipo-on as my classmate (batchmate). I’ve also made friends with some of my classmates like Charmaine who is also my travel companion at the LRT. Since I’m kind of familiar with Ms Algeb’s lessons, some approach me to help them with our lessons. wow! Well, the first lessons before the midterms were really not that difficult, I still have to deal with my fear of word problems before the finals, grr….

   2) TH

Good thing about my TH classes is that most of classes, especially my lab subs in Comsk2 and Algeb are all in one day plsu Reconse and Worlite. on thursday, I only have the last two mentioned with a 3 1/2 hour gap (Reconse ends at 9:30 while worlite starts at 1:00 and ends at 2:30). I have no more classes in 4:10 and 2:30 PM every Tuesday and Thursday respectively.

Only in Tuesday would I find myself crossing three roads to three buildings, and I mean all THREE buildings of CSB: Taft Main, AKIC (Algeb lab) and SDA (Reconse).

So far, I’m happy at the way things are going since I really need a breather after two terms of being with DV1 (I’m still with DV1 by the way, for Worlite). Hopefully, I can finally pass ALgeb (a 1 would be nice) and I only have to take summer classes if necessary (that means no more Ilocos for a while).

The CSB Experience: Course Adjustment, AKIC, LRT, Jollibee… (Termbreaker 2)

It’s a good thing that my mom dropped me off to school this morning since it will be difficult to hitch a ride at the LRT to get to CSB. The problem is that a fire, as I write this piece, is currently razing a mall near the LRT Baclaran Terminal in Pasay. I would only have a problem about it by the time I get myself home.

I was in CSB to have my course adjustment. I failed in Algeb-x (third child in a row) and now I want to have it retaken. Since I enrolled myself to its secondary course, Bmat2-x, I have to replace it with Algeb. The lines are particularly long and there was indeed no order. I thought the line that I joined was the one for CA but in actuality, it is for enrollment purposes (CA form requests and all), so I went to the actual line which is really shorter. If I was there in the first place, I would have been done in no time.

I cross upon Mark the BSBA-CA guy I met a few months back. he lent me some advise over CA procedures but it’d only made my situation worse. I was looking for a good altenrative schedule for me to take Algeb but there’s a but of a problem. It’s just that whatever convenient time I pick, it always have a conflict with one of my enlisted subject. Well, since I’m only replacing Bmat2-x for Algeb, I just went to the registrar and get all things done. I shared to her my dilemma and she had one of my classes moved to the time vacated by BMAT so I can have a convenient schedule as well as a convenient time for Algeb. I promise that by this time, I’ll pass this subject. I only have to make sure that I get the right rpofessors, not just from lecture, but from lab as well.

By the way, I had my Filip13 classes moved from the DV2 MWF 16:50-17:50 to an earlier time at 15:40-16:40 at the AKIC…cool. Too bad that I Won’t be with DV2 since many who enlisted at DV2 Filip13 are from DV1. Waaghh

Oh, yeah. On the way home, there was a long line of passengers lining up at the Vito Cruz station. the problem: the fire in Baclaran. It had forced the LRTA to have LIne 1 open from Monumento to Buendia Station southbound and northbound vice versa. The train that I was on was able to get to the first few stations from Vito Cruz to R. Papa fast but when it comes to the last two, 5th Avenue Station and Monumento Terminal, it got pretty yet awfully slow. Judging but how many songs I listened from my I-pod while reaching these two, I guess it’s around 20 if not 15 (really).

I ate lunch at Jollibee inside the Araneta Square before taing a jeepney ride straight to home. Can’t wait for Monday!

Sa nanghiram sa’kin ng ballpen kanina, text ko na lang kita, ok?
